Ikorodu local government recently played host to a meeting of all Lagos state’s 57 local government council of Supervisors of Agric, Sports and Social development
The focus of the meeting was the nomination of five representatives for agriculture, social development, youth and sport development from the five divisions in Lagos state.
Hon. Femi Afikuyomi (JP), Supervisor for Agric, Sports and Social Development, Ifako-Ijaiye local government used the medium to admonish residents of Ikorodu and its environs to register and get their permanent voters card to enable them vote the candidates of their choice during the forthcoming 2019 general elections.
Speaking with our correspondent, Hon. Afikuyomi stated that the idea behind the meeting was to support Lagos state Governor, Akinwumi Ambode’s unique policies on Agriculture and Sport. He added that the Governor and his wife would be inaugurating the local government FADAMA on May 17, 2018, as a way of demonstrating his commitment to agricultural development in the state.
A major highpoint of the meeting was the formal endorsement of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for second term in office, by all the 57 supervisors of Agric, Sports and Social Development at the event and the mobilisation of Ikorodu residents to register and get their permanent voters card, ahead of the 2019 general elections.
On the sideline of the event, the Vice Chairman, Ikorodu local government and Supervisor for Agric, Youth, Sport and Social development, Hon. Princess Folashade Olabanji Oba, who also doubles as the chief host of the meeting told our correspondence that the meeting was meant to bring the government closer to the people at the grassroots especially in the area of Agriculture.
Hon. Olabanji-Oba also charged youths across the state to be actively involved in politics, to enable them make relevant impact in the society. She also encouraged residents of Ikorodu to get their voter’s card in order to enable them vote in the upcoming elections.
She lamented that, according to the independent national electoral commission, INEC Lagos state has the highest number of voters’ card that has not been collected. She therefore advised that more awareness should be created among residents
