In line with Rotary’s focus in promoting public health, education and poverty alleviation in the society, the Rotary Club of Ikorodu Metropolitan, District 9110 has donated a 4.5 KVA generating set and 20 bags of delivery kits to pregnant women at the Ipakodo Health Centre, in Ikorodu West LCDA of Lagos State.

The donation of the generating set and delivery kits to the pregnant women, according to Rotarian Kola Sodipo, District Governor, Rotary International District 9110, was in line with one of the founding visions of the club, which is the promotion of health and general well-being of the citizens.

‘What we are doing today is to assist in the little way we can to promote the healthcare delivery needs of our people. Though, the primary responsibility of government is to assist in providing the basic needs and amenities for the populace. But, we equally recognize that, with increasing population in the world, government cannot do it alone.  So, it behooves on each and every one of us as non-governmental organizations and volunteers to be partners in progress with our various governments all over the world’.

Speaking further, he elaborated the areas of interventions of the Rotary International to include, health, education, poverty alleviation and promotion of world peace.

‘For today, we are intervening in the areas of maternal and child health, to ensure that our pregnant women are able to deliver their babies safely, with God’s help and the assistance of our health practitioners. We are also providing them with necessary delivery kits that will assist them in reducing the burdens on what they need to bring during delivery’ he submitted.

Rotarian Sodipo further counseled the pregnant women to ensure they make their babies available for the polio immunization after delivery, while advising them to also assist others around them, who may be in need, no matter how small.

Corroborating the District Governor, President, Rotary International Ikorodu Metropolitan, Rotarian Gbenga Olayemi stated that, the donation of the delivery kits to the pregnant women was the club’s contribution towards supporting government at all levels, towards reducing the child mortality rate in the country.

He added that, the club had in the past donated benches and other items to the Ita Elewa Health Centre, Ikorodu, stressing that it was the turn of the Ipakodo health centre to benefit from the benevolence of the Ikorodu Metropolitan Rotary Club.

‘Rotary value lives, Rotary appreciates lives. This is the reason why we have taken initiatives like this upon ourselves to ensure that in our own little way, we contribute to the society. Our primary responsibility as Rotary Club is to take care of the people in the society’, he said.

Responding, on behalf of the health Centre, Dr Adebanjo, Medical Officer in charge of the center, applauded the Ikorodu Metropolitan Rotary Club for considering the Ipakodo health centre as deserving of their resources. He also commended the donation of the 4.5 KVA generator to the centre, assuring the donors that the centre will put the generator to good use.
