NIGERIANS COMMEND INEC FOR EXTENDING VOTERS REGISTRATION EXERCISE BY TWO WEEKS

Nigerians across the country have continued to applaud the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to extend the on-going continuous voter’s registration exercise (CVR) by one week,

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the Continuous Voter Registration(CVR) exercise by two weeks. The registration will be concluded at the end of August. The body announced the extension in an official statement widely reported on traditional and new media

The extension is coming a few days after TakeItBackMovement, OurMumuDonDoMovement, as well as the Presidential Aspirants Coming Together (PACT) initiative and concerned civil society organizations, met with officials of INEC to call for an extension of the deadline to enable more Nigerians participate.

Nigerians believe that the extension will afford many Nigerians, who may have been disenfranchised the opportunity to register and collect their PVCs, to enable them participate in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

While some Nigerians are commending the electoral body, many still believe that the registration should be a continuous exercise, which must continue with or without an election in view. They based their argument on the fact that, people clock 18 years on a daily basis and should easily get registered by the body, the same way people obtain driver’s license and international passports.
