As different aspirants for the Ikorodu Constituency 1 seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly on the platform of the ruling, All Progressives Congress, APC continue to showcase their strengths for the office, one aspirant who stands out from the lot, as one with clear-cut, strategic legislative and people-centred agenda for the office is Hon Saheed Ibikunle.
Hon Ibikunle, popularly called Omoluabi by his teeming fans and supporters recently unveiled a six-point legislative agenda for the House of Assembly bid, making him the first to do so, among other aspirants.
What is more striking from the agenda, as presented by the Omoluabi is the proposal to institute the Ikorodu Security Trust Fund, aimed at arresting the incident of crime and cult activities that recently confronted the good people of Ikorodu from 2016 to 2017.
An extract of the proposed Ikorodu Security Trust Fund (ISTF), which came under his fourth legislative agenda under the caption, SECURITY OF LIVES AND PROPERTY is reproduced below;
Security of lives and property of citizens is the primary responsibility of any government. With the trend of insecurity being experienced across Ikorodu Community, I will collaborate with security agencies and local vigilante groups to arrest the situation.
I shall also institute the Ikorodu Security Trust Fund (ISTF) as a financial pool to assist the security agencies in the discharge of their constitutional duties. Similarly, our under-funded local vigilante group, ONYABO and other security agencies will be given robust support, through the fund, to ensure security and peace across Ikorodu Constituency 1.
It is instructive to note that, the proposed security trust fund will go a long way in complimenting the efforts of Lagos State Government in combating crime in the state, it will also become the first of such innovative community-based programme to be introduced anywhere in Lagos State, and, arguably in Nigeria as a whole.
Many stakeholders and political watchers have tipped the youthful veteran educationist and community builder whose campaign has been adjudged as the most civil and issue-based as the most politically experienced and academically qualified replacement for the incumbent, Hon SOB Agunbaide.
