IKORODU-SAGAMU ROAD: RESIDENTS LAUNCH #NO-TO-ONE-LANE SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN, BERATES FG, FASHOLA FOR DOING A SINGLE LANE ROAD

The excitements of many residents of Ikorodu and Sagamu in Ogun State on the recent flag-off of the rehabilitation works on the Ikorodu-Sagamu road may have been cut short, with the realization that residents of the two major South-West communities has been short-changed by the Federal government.

The controversy which started from the social media last week has spread like wildfire into the nooks and cranny of the communities, with many residents berating the Buhari-led Federal government and the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola being accused of short-changing the residents of Ikorodu and Sagamu for building a single lane road for the communities with rapidly growing population.

Part of the news circulating on the social media captioned, Ikorodu-Sagamu Road is a Fraud!-Let’s Protest the Injustice, reads in part; It is distasteful to that the road is just being reconstructed into a one-lane road. Making it one lane will stifle development and also lead to frequent accidents. It clearly shows FG’s shortsightedness and non-futuristic. By this, Lagos and Ogun State residents have been short-changed and less cared for’.

The statement reads further, ‘interestingly, a section of the road which Ogun State government was doing before the FG took over was two-lane. It is worrisome that FG will not see wisdom and sense in the Ogun State government’s plan to dualize it’.

The release, whose source cannot be ascertained, as at the time of this report condemned what it termed a disservice and disregard to the people’s welfare and public interest. It further stated that, if the development is not challenged, the sufferings of the poor residents of Ikorodu and Sagamu communities will increase.

Sponsors of the online campaigns have called on residents of Ikorodu and Sagamu communities and the Civil Society groups to protest the perceived injustice. It also called on political office holders in the two communities to also add their voice and use their good offices to protest the injustice to the appropriate government quarters.
