For the second time within a space of three months, the Rotary Club of Ikorodu Metropolitan has reached out to residents of Ipakodo in Ikorodu local government of Lagos State. The club recently donated a generating set and delivery kits to pregnant women at the Ipakodo Primary Health Centre.
About 300 residents of Ipakodo community in Ikorodu West LCDA benefited from a free medical outreach organised by the Rotary Club of Ikorodu Metropolitan on Saturday 20th October at Ipakodo primary healthcare center Ebute Ikorodu.
The free medical services covered a wide range of ailments including, malaria, blood sugar level, hepatitis A&B, HIV/AIDS, eyes, polio and blood pressure checks amongst others.
Two medical doctors alongside other para-medics were on hand to attended to the health needs of beneficiaries in their various areas of health challenges. Similarly, free treatments, medications and medical counselling were offered on how to avoid a re-occurrence.
Speaking on the ideals of the Rotary club, the president Mr Taofeek Kolawole stressed that ” the government cannot be left alone to cater for the people in terms of health, that is the reason Rotary is standing for the needy, supporting the government and reaching out to the less privileged who forget to take care of their health while trying to make ends meet, he said”
Many of the beneficiaries could not hide their joy as they showered encomiums on the Rotary Club of Ikorodu, for taking up such humanitarian programme in the interest of the poor masses, most of whom cannot afford basic health treatments, due to poverty and lack of necessary health information.
One of the beneficiaries, Jinah John was full of praises to God for the initiative, “I thank God for Rotary Club, for coming up with this especially for the Hepatitis A&B and blood sugar level test. God bless them for helping the poor masses’, he said.
Another beneficiary, Mrs Theresa Obi said it was her first time of partaking in the exercise and she expressed gratitude to Rotary Club of Ikorodu Metropolitan because, according to her, she rarely have the time to go to hospitals for medical check-up.
Meanwhile, one of the doctors who attended to beneficiaries, Dr Ojo Dare berated the careless attitude of many Nigerians to their health, “we have discovered that our people are still far behind in the area of preventive health care especially when it comes to using mosquito nets, dental check up and even visual health care. So, we are not practicing good medical service for ourselves in this part of the world’.
‘Therefore, we are creating enlightenment on the one-on-one interaction with them to move away from the passive curative health practice to prevention health care which is the best. We are also admonishing them to desist from self medication’, he submitted.
In addition to the free medical services provided, Rotary Club also distributed sanitary towels, condoms and mosquito nets to the beneficiaries.
