Nigeria’s Vice President and the vice presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC has described Ikorodu Division as the home of progressive politics in Nigeria. He therefore urged residents of the division to continue on the path of progressive politics by voting for the ruling, All Progressive Congress, APC candidates at the forthcoming general elections in the country.
Oshinbajo stated this while addressing residents, party leaders and supporters at the palace of the Ayangbure of Ikorodu and paramount ruler of the division, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi on Sunday, 10th February, 2019 in continuation of his door-to-door campaign visit to the community, ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The event tagged, One-on-One with Professor Yemi Oshinbajo was put together by a faith-based socio-political group, The Concerned Christians Initiative (TCCI), under the leadership of a former Lagos State Executive Secretary, Pastor Ololade Salami.
Highlighting some of the Achievements of the Buhari-led administration, Oshinbajo noted that with the annual turnover of graduates put at about 1.7million, the N-Power initiative was conceived to empower about 500, 000 unemployed Nigerian youths. He added that the government is working hard to increase beneficiaries under the scheme to about 1.5Million youths. He added that the youths are also empowered with a tablet meant to for the youths under the scheme for self-tutoring on entrepreneurship.
Prof Oshinbajo stated that the APC-led federal government will also establish an Entrepreneurship Bank meant to create funding for new entrepreneurs who wish to start business while also assisting existing entrepreneurs with funding for expansions.
On power generation, Oshinbajo said that the Buhari administration has increased power generation from 4.5 megawatts when it took over in 2015 to about 7.5 Megawatts in 2019, with the promise to improve on electricity generation through licensing of new private power generating companies. He also showcased the scorecard of the administration in power generation to include power supply to Araria Market, Aba, Sabon gari Market, Kano, Sura Market, Iponri and Odongunyan industrial estate, Ikorodu among others.
Also speaking on the government’s economic empowerment initiatives, Oshinbajo stated that the government has implemented Trader Moni, Market Moni, Farmer Moni and other social intervention initiatives as avenues through which the government is promoting financial inclusiveness to those in the lower cadre of the country.
Hs added that, the federal government in its new drive for economic empowerment would also establish a People’s Money Bank that will support small-scale businesses and petty traders on a larger scale.
Prof Oshinbajo assured the CDC members, Buhsri-Oshinbajo support group and over 20 groups of artisans who attended the event that the APC-led federal government belonged to ordinary Nigerians like them and assured them that the government will work to protect their interests.
The vice president concluded his speech by urging Nigerians, particularly, residents of Ikorodu division to ensure they don’t allow looters of the nation’s treasury to find their way back into government, by voting for the re-election of President Muhammed Buhari and other APC candidates at all levels.
Pledging their support for the reelection of the Buhari-Oshinbajo, a representative of the persons living with disabilities praised the Buhari-led administration for signing the disability bill into law. He assured the vice president that the over 10 million people living with disability will vote en-masse for President Buhari, Prof Oshinbajo and other APC candidates in the elections.
The vice president also had a brief stop at the popular Sabo market in Ikorodu, where he spoke to the Hausa community on the activities of the federal government, while imploring them to support Buhari’s second term bid.
