HON ABIKE DABIRI-EREWA FACILITATES DISTRIBUTION OF EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS TO PUPILS OF AGA PRIMARY SCHOOL, IKORODU BY U.S BASED NGO, DISTANT RELATIVES

Ikorodu born aide to President Muhammed Buhari on Diaspora Affairs and CEO of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa has facilitated the donation of educational materials to Aga Primary School, Ikorodu on Monday, 15th April 2019.

The educational support materials were donated courtesy of Distant Relatives, a United State based non-governmental organisation whose main objective is to provide support to less privileged communities across the world.

The Distant Relatives delegation was led by a Ghanaian national, Gilfred Nana, Enoch Ofori and Nifham Asiodu as team members.

Speaking one after the other, the team stressed the need for everyone around the world to see themselves as distant relatives and should strive to meet the needs of the less privileged in the society.

Speaking at the presentation event, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa who facilitated the donation encouraged the pupils to work and study hard, stressing that they can achieve their dream. She added that she had to personally attend the presentation, inspite her tight schedule simply to identify with the pupils and to inspire them to pursue greatness just like her.

The team made a special presentation of a brand new laptop to Afolayan Motunromobi, a primary 6 student and overall best student of the school, with the charge for her to maximize the use of the device to facilitate the realization of her dream future career. An elated Moturomobi assured the delegates that she would make judicious use of the laptop in pursuit of her dream of becoming a medical doctor.

The team also presented shoes and bags to outstanding pupils who answered their questions correctly. Similarly, hard cover notebooks, pencils, biros and branded wristbands were also distributed to hundreds of the pupils.

Speaking earlier, leader of the delegation Gilfred Nana stated that, ‘The vision of Distant Relatives is to provide help and support to under-served communities in the world. We are here to let the pupils that someone cares for them and to encourage them to strive for excellence. We understand how challenging it can be for pupils to learn in this type of environment and we are here, courtesy of Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa to support them to excel’, he said.

Speaking on behalf of the school, Mrs Akinbola Headmistress, Aga Primary school thanked the delegation for the gesture, assuring them that the pupils will make judicious use of the items.  She however added that the school needed more support from government, non-governmental organisations and private individuals towards the upliftment of the school.

The presentation event was witnessed by a former Senior Special Assistant to Lagos State Governor on Education, Hon Saheed Ibikunle, Alhaja Sherifat Ogunniyi, Principal, Oriwu Model College, an APC leader, Alh Folorunsho among others.
