There is currently palpable fear and panic among traders at Olorunda Market, Ipakodo in Ikorodu West LCDA as they call the attention of government to the possibility of Covid-19 outbreak in the community, through two (2) Hausa men who returned from Kano last Sunday night.
According to a market leader, who spoke to Ikorodu Oga Radio, the two Hausa traders allegedly returned to Ipakodo on Sunday night with Dangote industries lorry that was in Kano to supply goods.
In a chat with our correspondent, Babaloja of Olorunda market, Ipakodo, Mr Jamiu Popoola corroborated the development, stating that his attention was called to the development by concerned traders in the market.
‘I have just been informed that some Hausa traders just returned to our market from Kano State last night. We are calling on Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu to please, come to our aid. We do not want an outbreak of Covid-19 in Ipakodo’, he said.
Mr Popoola further appealed to all concerned government agencies to, as a matter of urgency nip the discovery in the bud, in order to avert an escalated Covid-19 outbreak in the market as well as the entire Ipakodo and its adjoining communities in general.
Meanwhile, we were reliably informed that, Chief Aro of Ipakodo, Chief Reuben Shonubi has been briefed on the development and he has directed one Babangida, one of the leaders of the Hausa community in Ipakodo to ensure the Kano returnee are evacuated from the Olorunda market and Ipakodo community, as a whole.
Similarly, the Olorunda market leadership also called on the relevant government agencies to visit the market, with a view to enforcing the social distancing directive as it alleged that certain traders in the market, in particular, a female beer parlour operator has been flagrantly violating the government lockdown directive, by opening her shop and hosting customers on a daily basis, since the lockdown began.
He alleged that all efforts to compel her to abide by the government directive has proved abortive.
It will be recalled that Kano State recently recorded about 200 mysterious deaths within the last one week, while the NCDC have put the Covid-19 cases in the state to 77 active cases.
