LAGOS EAST SEAT: TOKUNBO ABIRU EMERGES LAGOS APC CONSENSUS CANDIDATE

Managing Directot of Polaris Bank PLC and a notable Ikorodu Son, Mr Tokunbo Abiru may have finally bow to pressures being mounted on him to contest for the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the forthcoming October 31st Senatorial bye-election for Lagos East Senatorial District. The seat was recently left vacant due to the sudden demise of Senator Sikiru Bayo Osinowo, who occupied the seat between June 2019-July 2020.

Abiru, an accomplished banker and former Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State is said to belong to the inner caucus of key technocrats cum politicians who are trusted allies of the APC National leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He is beleived by many to be a thoroughbred professional banker, seasoned administrator, with impeccable character, some of the virtues we learnt attracted him to the APC leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ikorodu Oga Radio gathered that, Mr Tokunbo Abiru, who was recently rumoured to have been endorsed by the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) of the APC, led by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has now accepted his party’s offer to represent his people at the Senate and have finally decided to give the ticket a shot.

It was reliably gathered that Tokunbo Abiru has been in consultation with key party leaders and elders across the Lagos East Senatorial district in the last couple of days and now have their blessings as the partys preferred candidate in the forthcoming election.

Being the first and only candidate to have received his party’s  nod, coupled with the GAC’s endorsement of his candidacy, Abiru may be on his way to emerge as the consensus candidate for the APC’s senatorial ticket.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed sources claimed that, Mr Tokunbo Abiru’s elder brother, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru and Chairman, Ikorodu Oga Development Association who is also a major contender for the party’s ticket, may have also thrown his weight behind his younger brother’s candidacy, in view of the family relationship between the duo.

Efforts to reach the senior Abiru for his reaction on the development proved abortive, as he wss said to be attending a very important meeting that may not be unconnected to the Lagos APC leadership decision.
