About 120 traders across Ikorodu federal constituency five (5) local government have been empowered with a soft grant of Ten Thousand Naira each by Hon Babajimi Benson, Member, representing Ikorodu federal constituency at the House of. Representatives.
The cash support, Ikorodu Oga Radio gathered was initiated two yeara ago, as an annual financial grant, aimed at providing the much needed support required by traders to boost their trading activities. This, according to Mayor Deen Sanwoola, Director-General I-Care Foundation was meant to bridge the financial gap that may exist among these group of people in the informal sector, majority of whom cannot access regular loans from commercial and microfinance banks.
Speaking at the presentation of the cash support to the traders, Hon Jimi Benson stated that, ‘this loan is our own little way of supporting your businesses, with a view to boosting the growth of our informal sector. We have deliberately made this cash support non-refundable, so as not to put you under any unnecessary pressure of repayment’, he said.
Hon Benson, while presenting the cash support to the traders prayed for them to become prosperous in their businesses so that they can also become a blessing to others in need around them.
Appreciating the gesture of the federal lawmaker, on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Iyaloja of Ayangburen Sabo Market and Iyaloja-General of Ikorodu Division, Alh. Taofikat Abiodun Allison was full of praises and prayers for Hon Jimi Benson and his family.
‘We are grateful to our honourable for this kind gesture to our poor traders. No amount of money is small, especially when it is given out for free. May God continue to bless and replenish his purse’, she stated.
She also gave a word of advise to beneficiaries by imploring them to make judicious use of the fund to boost their businesses and not to divert it into frivolity.
‘To the beneficiaries, I urge them to remember to pray for the man that has provided the cash support. In the same vein, I want to advise them to make judicious use of the cash support. They should not divert the money into buying ‘aso-ebi’ or partying. They should not see the money as small. If well managed, it can greatly improve their businesses’, she noted.
