A call has been made to newly elected local government chairmen across Ikorodu local government and local councildevelopment areas to be actively involved in the promotion and celebration of the community’s cultural heritage and values.

This call was made by Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, Chairman, Ikorodu Oga Development Association, IKODASS as part of efforts towards ensuring that all hands are on deck, towards the projection and celebration of the cultural heritage of the community.

‘While Eyo is synonymous to Lagos Island and Zomgbeto is peculiar to Badagry and Okoshi is associated to Epe. What is Ikorodu noted for, I don’t know?, asked Abiru.

He further challenged Ikorodu division stakeholders to develop and glamorize the division’s rich cultural heritage, such that it can be recognized and accorded its right of place in future Lagos state events and cultural ceremonies.

Abiru said, ‘the Ikorodu local government all Local council development authority in this division must see this as a challenge and come together to do Ikorodu division proud. This local government and LCDAs must not give us their usual song of ‘there is no money’ They must be actively involved in our cultural renaissance.

Abiru further proposed an annual divisional boat regatta competition to be organised by the local governments and LCDAs as a way of grooming participants from Ikorodu division for the state’s future events and boat regatta competition.
