2017 IKORODU OGA DAY: OTUNBA ABIRU LED IKODASS EXCO MAKES HISTORY, GIVES ACCOUNT OF STEWARDSHIP

In what many has termed an unprecedented development, the Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS) executives, led by a retired permanent secretary and former Clerk of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru has raised the bar of leadership of the community association by rendering accounts of stewardship on the last Ikorodu Oga Day celebrations.

The general council meeting tagged, ‘2017 Ikorodu Oga Day Reports and 2018 Plans’ was well attended my members of IKODASS registered clubs and associations as well as many interested stakeholders who attended the general council meeting as observers.

Rendering reports and accounts of activities of the 2017 Ikorodu Oga Day, Otunba Abiru stated that, of all the programme of activities lined up for the annual celebration, all the events and activities were successful.

Abiru reported that the 9 kilometers of distance was covered in the marathon race, with public and private school students as participants. He commended the publicity committee for doing an excellent job, as evident in the massive turn outs and participation of Ikorodu residents at all the events.

Speaking further, he also noted that, the new executives introduced the Transporters’ Day as a new activity for the annual Ikorodu Oga Day event, as a platform for promoting peace and to eradicate the internal wrangling between the two major sister-transport unions namely, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).

Abiru reported that IKODASS successfully screened 300 women for cervical / prostate cancer across Ikorodu’s three (3) Local government and local council development areas. On donation, he reported that the body donated eight (8) sets of bed and mattress with marking-torch to Ita Elewa primary health and maternity centre.

Otunba Abiru however noted that, though the Local Diet day was successful, the activity requires some improvements in the coming year, to make it a more successful event.

It was an occasion of outpouring of encomiums on the Otunba Abiru-led executives for recording so many feats within the short period in office. They particularly commended the transparent manner in which the Ankara uniform for the annual celebration was sold and receipted for; a feat they said was alien to past executives of the association.

The Chairman placed on records that the IKODASS executive declared a whopping Three Million and Five Hundred Thousand Naira only (N3, 500,000) as income from the sales of the Ikorodu Oga Day Ankara uniform. This is apart from another one million Naira profit from other sources.

Otunba Abiru seized the occasion to appreciate the supports and partnerships of member clubs and associations to his executive members, while also soliciting for more of their supports in the new year.

Meanwhile, the IKODASS Chairman also used the occasion to inform the general council of some of the association’s plans for the year 2018. Some of these activities include hosting of the maiden edition of Ikorodu Economic Summit and a special reception for Azeezat Oshola, the Ikorodu-born China Based female footballer who was recently crowned Africa’s female footballer of the year by the Confederation of Africa Football, CAF.
