IPAKODO PRINCES, PROMINENT INDIGENES SET AGENDA FOR THE NEW SEKUMADE OF IPAKODO, OBA BASIR AREMU SHOTONWA

An indication that the entire Ipakodo community has put the protracted battles to fill the Sekumade stool behind them was evident in the large turn out of and Ipakodo community stakeholders and prominent princes from various ruling houses who came to support the new monarch.

Ikorodu Oga Radio correspondents accosted some of them on their expectations from the new Sekumade of Ipakodo and below are excerpts of their responses.

Speaking with Ikorodu Oga Radio on the sideline of the historic event, Prince Taiwo Hassan Jimbo, son of the immediate past Sekumade of Ipakodo, Oba Lasisi Olugbenga Hassan Jimbo said, ‘the emergence of a new Oba in Ipakodo is long overdue, the community has suffered due to the protracted Obaship tussle. To say that the development of the community has been retarded in the last 19 years will be an understatement.

Speaking further, Prince Hassan advised that the Oba-Elect should go about reconciling with aggrieved parties as a positive show of leadership. He added that, upon ascending the throne, he should take a cue from his late father, Oba Hassan Jimbo whose reign witnessed tremendous progress and development of Ipakodo community.

I am happy that somebody is succeeding my father, after the struggle of almost 19 years since his demise. As a family, we have decided to move forward. My advice to our new King is that he should be all-accommodating and continue to be a good listener we have known him to be. As a king, he is the father of all. I will also advise him to take the Ipakodo community to greater heights from where my father, Oba Hassan Jimbo left it.

Prince Sulaiman Adesegun, a prince from the Odubi ruling family of Ipakodo also bared his mind on the historic occasion, ‘We have put the past behind us, the Sekumade family of Ipakodo has been re-united and rejigged through the peace and reconciliation process facilitated by the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi.

We have agreed on how to move forward and we positive that the past wrangling will become a thing of the past in the history of Ipakodo community. Our new Kabiyesi is a listening monarch and we pray that his reign will be long and prosperous.

Also, a former sole administrator of Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon Segun Anifowoshe also added his voice to the voices of other stakeholders, ‘today is a memorable occasion, I am happy that we are installing a new Oba. I look forward to more developments within the community under his reign

My advice to our new Oba is just for him to ensure that the progress and developments that have eluded Ipakodo community in the last 19 years are brought back to the community. And, to indigenes and residents, I implore them to give the new monarch their 100 percent support’, he said.
