The Senator, representing Lagos East Senatorial District and Chairman, Senate Committee on Industries have played host to Abiru Consolidation Team a support group of politicians and technocrats across the 16 local Councils of the Lagos East Senatorial, towards identifying with his quality and uncommon representation.
The Group, led by its Convener and Co-convener, Omo’ba Peju Akinyemi and Mr Shakiru Seidu, led members of the group to the Senator at his Constituency office in Ikorodu, Lagos. The meeting was moderated by Dr. Saheed Ibikunle, Member, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board and Special Adviser to Senator Abiru on Constituency Matters.
In his brief remarks, Convener of the Abiru Consolidation Team (ACT),. Omo’ba Akinyemi recalled how the Group had been keen observers of the unique leadership style and unprecedented legislative innovations and sustainable programmes that focus on human capital development, business support and tech innovations which Senator Abiru has been championing since he was elected as the Senator representing Lagos East.
Akinyemi, stated that the group has a twin vision of propagating the good works of the Senator across Lagos East and to mobilize support for his re-election to the Senate in 2023.
He stressed that the group was the first to formally endorse the former Bank MD turned Senator and the first to start mobilizing support for his re-election in 2023.
“Distinguished Senator sir, Abiru Consolidation Team (ACT) is a child of necessity, created for the twin purpose of propagating your #DoingGood activities across Lagos East Senatorial District and for mobilisation of support for your re-election to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Akinyemi opined.
“We are a political support Group, committed to your success and re-election into the Senate for a second term in office. This is a task we believe must be pursued and accomplished to ensure the current tempo of quality and effective representation in Lagos East is sustained”, he added.
Speaking on the composition of the Group, Akinyemi explained that, “ACT is made up of a mixture of practising and aspiring politicians as well as technocrats whose sole interest is to support the Senator Abiru to succeed in his current position”.
In demonstration of its unalloyed commitment to the task, Akinyemi explained that the Group has embarked upon the formal endorsement of Abiru’s second term in office, through a press release, creation of WhatsApp Group platforms, meant to further promote his activities and engagements with key stakeholders across Lagos East. Also commenced a weekly Senator Abiru Consolidation Team (ACT) Political Quiz competition, with handsome rewards for winners.
Akinyemi however announced to the admiration of the Senator that all the group’s activities and intitiatives so far has been self-spoosored, through member’s contributions.
In his eloquent response, Senator Abiru thanked the ACT members and its leadership for the honour accorded in propagating him while assuring them of inclusion in his subsequent programmes and activities.
‘I am impressed by your group and style of progressive politics. This is the way politics should be played. The people must be involved and willing to support candidates with their little contributions. This was the way politics was played in the days of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Unfortunately, this is no more the case nowadays’
Abiru described the political ideals of the ACT as uncommon, while assuring them that he would involve the group in his future activities, as he continue to provide greater good to the larger number of people in the Lagos East Senatorial District.
Abi4u highlighted some of his numerous achievements in the last 16 months to include, Capacity Development Training organized for 1000 MSMEs in the district in partnership with Fate Foundation and Chartered Standard Foundation which upskilled MSMEs operators and upscale their capacities. According to him, the 300 Million Naira Constituency Intervention Revolving Loan at a concessional 6 percent interest will kick off second quarter, 2022.
The Senator also explained to the Group, the Senator Abiru Innovation Lab (SAIL), set up by his Foundation, (Tokunbo Abiru Constituency Team) TACT Foundation, in partnership with the Co-creation Hub (CchHUB) which which has been running effectively.
Abiru said Tech and digital skills being the currency of the fourth industrial revolution, was imperative to start positioning Lagos East youths for the boundless economic opportunities and global job opportunities in the tech ecosystem.
A former Ikorodu LGA APC Chairman and former Chairmaship Aspirant, Ikorodu Local Government, Alhaji R.I. Jinodu, joined the Senator in receiving the Abiru Consolidation Team, ACT.
Jinodu enjoined the Group to remain focused in its primary objectives. He also pledged his readiness to work in partnership with the theme towards achieving its objectives.
A major highpoint of the visit was the presentation of branded face caps and stickers to the Distinguished Senator by Omo’ba Akinyemi, supported by other members of the team.
