Exactly two weeks to the much-anticipated Ikorodu Division General Assembly, slated for Thursday, 23rd May, 2024, stakeholders have set an agenda for the largest biennial gathering of all Ikorodu Division indigenes, residents and corporate bodies.
The general assembly, which debuted in 2022 serves as a veritable platform for strategic engagement between the political class and the masses.
It also serves as a strategic feedback platform for elected representatives and government officials.
Similarly, the Eminent Persons of Ikorodu Division (EPID), organisers of the event also use the opportunity to collate and showcase score-cards of public office holders and government functionaries to key stakeholders and attendees.
To set the ground for a robust engagement, the Bashorun Babatunde Tajudeen Rotinwa-led Planning Committee yesterday hosted a Pre-Assembly Stakeholders’ Meeting where contributions, suggestions and feedbacks were taken from some of the key stakeholders most of whom are prospective participants at the event.
Rotinwa, who chaired the Stakeholders’ Meeting briefed the attendees on the imperatives of the general assembly. He equally enlightened them on the need for corporate social responsibility initiatives from corporate bodies operating within Ikorodu Division, as a way of complimenting the efforts of government in providing social amenities for the Division.
Vice Chairman of the planning Committee and a former Head of Service, Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe in his contributions stated that the people were the most important stakeholders in a true democracy, thus charging attendees to be alive and active in their constitutional roles.
He equally charged them to mobilize other Stakeholders to attend the assembly enmasse with a view to ensuring a robust engagement.
Supervisor for Environment and Member of the Planning Committee, Arakunrin Kazeem Showemimo corroborated the positions of the Committee Chairman, while pledging the attendees that their concerns would be amplified at the event.
Stakeholders at the event, cuts across the Corporate Bodies, Community Development Committees (CDCs) commended EPID for creating the platform of the Ikorodu Division General Assembly for residents.
They however highlighted Security, threats of Gas stations located within residential areas, and infrastructural deficits among others as challenges confronting them.
In his closing remarks, General Secretary of the Planning Committee, Mr Faruk Giwa assured attendees that their contributions would be included in the agenda for discussion at the assembly.
Corporate stakeholders in attendance were the OLAMS Nig Ltd, formerly Dangote Industries, Albright Supermarkets, Cash & Carry Electronics and Bukka Hut.
Others were the CDC Chairman of Ijede, Igbogbo and Ikorodu Central.
Members of the Planning Committee in attendance were a retired Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs Oluwagbemiga Benson, Alh Tunde Olowookere, Arakunrin Kazeem Showemimo and Om’oba ‘Peju Akinyemi, who also doubles as Media & Strategy Consultant to the Planning Committee.
The 2024 Ikorodu Division General Assembly will hold on Thursday, 23rd May, 2024 at the main hall of Ikorodu Ultra-modern Town Hall.
