Though it’s been three decades since they left secondary school, United High School, Ikorodu 94 Set yesterday decided to re-ignite their bond and network with their former classmates to commemorate their 30th anniversary re-union.
The 2-day commemorative event kicked off yesterday in their school premises with a special seminar on life’s skills and principles for the students.

First to speak was the Set Vice President and a Senior FRSC Officer, RC Isah Jamilat Jubril who charged the students on the meed to focus on their education while pursuing their life’s goals and dreams.
She equally implored teachers and parents to endeavour to listen to their wards by allowing them express themselves, thus understanding their challenges so as to know how to help them be the best they can become in life.

Concluding, she called on other members of the set that were yet to identify with them to do so, stating that since destiny brought them together as school mates, they were supposed to continue as friends, irrespective of their social and financial status.
In the same vein, Mrs Janet Balogun who was the Set’s Head Girl harped on the need for the students to embrace smart work early in life, clarifying that smart work was better and guarantees more results than hardwork.
She recounted her experience as a JSS 2 student of the school and how she had to assist her mum carry her wares to the popular Aswani market in Lagos as early as 5am every Tuesday and how the experience helped her become an industrious person.
Earlier, a Permanent Member of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LSUBEB), Dr Saheed Ibikunle also admonished the students on the need to strive for excellence in their academics, stating that a solid educational background was the foundation for a successful future.

Similarly, Principal of LASU International School, Mr Taiwo Odumbo in his brief remarks at the event canvassed for the adoption of the psychomotor part of education that speaks to leadership and skill development among students rather than the current situation where emphasis is more on the cognitive ability of children so that schools can produce well-rounded school leavers.
A major highpoint of the re-union was the presentation of Special Recognition Awards to some of the teachers that taught the Set while they were in school.
Principal of the Senior and Junior School were also honoured for their good works.

The event climaxed with the formal commissioning and unveiling of the newly renovated school hall.
Guests, led by Dr Ibikunle subsequently took a tour of the new hall and commended the United High School, 94 Set for giving back to their alma mater.
The event was graced by the National President of the United High School Old Students Association, Mr Olowosago and a 1991 Set old student of the school, Barr. Olakunle Odesanya among others.
