RESIDENTS, APC CHIEFTAINS COMMEND REP BENSON AS LAGOS DEPUTY GOVERNOR, OBAFEMI HAMZAT COMMISSIONS LAMBO- LASUNWON ROAD

Residents of Lambo Lasunwon Road in Ikorodu North LCDA yesterday could not hide their joy as the once deplorable road was formally commissioned after it was rehabilitated by the Chairman House of Reps Committee on Defence, Rep Babajimi Benson.

While many of the residents trooped out in large numbers to witness the historic commissioning. They were seen singing and chanting the praises of Benson, who is the Member, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency at the House of Reps.

Similarly, APC Chieftains in attendance took turns to eulogize Benson for bringing succour to the community that has languished in pains for decades over the deplorable state of the road.

Speaking on behalf of the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC at the event, Ikorodu Division APC Chairman, Hon Tijani Olasunkanmi stated that ‘this project is a game changer for Ikorodu’.

He added that, future initiatives, including a proposed entrepreneurial university in Ikorodu, would further benefit the local community.

Chairman, community development committee (CDC), while commending Benson’s quality representation demanded that Ikorodu needed special status treatment from both Lagos State and Federal Government.

‘When others get two projects, Ikorodu should receive eight because it delivers during elections’, he said.

He equally thanked Lagos State Government for upgrading Lagos State Polytechnic to Lagos State University of Science and Technology, but insisted Ikorodu still needs another polytechnic. ‘We can’t do without technical education’, he asserted.

Speaking further, he said, ‘There are no bus stops or pedestrian bridges on the Shagamu-Ikorodu road. We need your intervention to install these facilities to prevent accidents’, he pleaded.

Similarly, Amb. Biliamin Olalekan Oba, SSA to the Governor on Social Development described the event as inspiring, noting that Benson’s welfare initiatives, such as the iCare food bank and scholarship programs, reflected his understanding of the community’s needs.

Chairman Nans JCC Lagos axis also commended the leadership of Honourable Babajimi Benson.

‘This is commendable. He has done so much for Ikorodu, and we appreciate his continued support for students. We wish him continued success’, he said.

Addressing the excited gathered, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat appreciated Rep Benson, ‘for what he is doing and that is why we encourage our people to look for good people, not just for the sake of vote but people who are born with good virtue like Jimi Benson to be our representatives. Nigeria belongs to all of us so we must bring something from the Federal to State’, he said.

‘it is imperative for Nigerians to elect representatives who are committed to the development of their communities and possess good character, to drive growth and progress in their constituencies’, he added.

Leadership should extend beyond winning elections; it should be about genuine service’.

He further noted that, ‘Ikorodu has received the largest chunk of infrastructural development projects in the state, with about N26 billion in compensation to residents and property owners on Isawo, Igbogbo, and Gberigbe roads’.

Responding to the request of residents for a pedestrian bridge, Hamzat expressed agreement with the demands, especially for the safety of children.

The Deputy Governor equally appealed to Landlords not to rip the LASUSTECH student population off.

‘We understand that things are challenging, but please do not exploit our students. Keep rents reasonable for students in the community’, he pleaded.

‘Although things are tough, Ikorodu people are lucky to have a good representative; therefore, l urge you not to be despondent’ he concluded.
