Residents of Ikorodu and its environs have been urged to enrol into the Ilera-Eko Health Insurance Scheme sponsored by the Lagos State Government, as a way of taking off the financial burden of managing and maintaining their health.
The sensitisation team was led to Ikorodu by the Special Adviser, Office of Civic Engagement, Princess Aderemi Adebowale and the General Manager of the Lagos State Health Management Agency, Dr Emmanuella Ashaka.
Giving insight into the grassroots health Insurance Scheme, Mrs Adebowale noted that her team will visit the 20 Local Government Areas of the State, with the aim of promoting Ilera Eko Health plan and also scale up the grassroots enrolment of Lagos residents.
‘As you are very familiar with, the 2nd pillar in the developmental plan of the administration of Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, as encapsulated in the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda is on health and the environment. All around the globe, health remains on the priority list of every government at all levels and therefore our dear State cannot afford to be an exception. “A healthy nation, it is said, is a wealthy nation’.
She noted that, this is the reason the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is focussed on ensuring that all the residents of Lagos State, have access to quality, equitable and affordable healthcare regardless of their socio-cultural and economic status’.
‘Basically, Ladies and Gentlemen, health insurance is a way of paying for medical bills and health care costs. Most people can’t pay for all their health care out-of-pocket. Health Insurance is therefore the way to go in making it easier to pay our health care bills, and help us get the care we need. This is the practice in many of the advanced and developed worlds today’, she concluded.
General Manager of LASHMA, Dr Emmanuella also gave further insights into the scheme, breaking it down into the different plans and payment structures.
Ikorodu local government Chairmen and chief host of the event, Hon Wasiu Adeshina was full of praises to Governor Babajide Sanwoolu for embarking on the health scheme, describing it as people-centred.
The Iyaloja-General of Ikorodu Division, Alh Taofeekat Allison testified to the effectiveness of the Ilera Eko Scheme. She confessed to have benefited from the scheme and urged all market men and women to embrace and subscribe to the scheme.
Another subscriber, Mrs Oluwatoyin Oshikoya also remarked that she was well attended to at the private hospital she visited recently. She also encouraged residents to subscribe to the scheme.
Baale of Ojogbe Community, Chief Olomo noted that he was happy with the quality of treatment he received at the general hospital recently under the scheme.
A major highpoint of the event was the purchase of 20 units of the insurance scheme by Hon Wasiu Adeshina, to be distributed to the political class, CDC, Baales, etc free of charge.
