IKORODU LG LEGISLATIVE CRISIS: HON ISSA AYOBAMI IS THE AUTHENTIC HOUSE LEADER

Following controversies that trailed the emergence of Hon Gbenga Awobajo as leader of Ikorodu legislative council at the controversial sitting on Thursday, 27th July, 2017, due to deepening internal crisis within the party and the inability of the councilors to resolve the impasse among themselves, the leadership of the All Progressive Congress in Ikorodu central has waded into the crisis, hence putting an end to the stalemate.

This follows series of consultations and negotiations among the warring factions of the newly inaugurated legislators. The meeting, leading to the resolution of the lingering crisis between the newly- elected councilors and the party’s Chairman,  Hon. Taiwo Longe on one part and the executive arm of the local government on the other hand hold behind closed doors for several hours. The meeting, which kicked off at the council Secretariat on Monday, August 7th, 2017 as early as 9:00am ended at few minutes past four o clock, in the evening.

After several hours of negotiations, the councilors and the party chairman in Ikorodu Central emerged from the meeting to meet with the Chairman of the Local Government; Hon. Wasiu Adeshina and his Vice; Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, to communicate the resolutions made earlier—which also lasted for another set of hours behind closed doors.

As the impatience supporters of some of the Councilors and members of the general public was building up, the stakeholders arose from the meeting and proceeded to the Legislative Chambers of the Council where elections into the various offices at the Legislative arm took place and the house officially inaugurated.

The election was conducted by the Clerk of the House; Mr Dahunsi Abiodun, produced  Hon. Issa Ayobami, from Ward G, who was nominated by Hon Gbenga Awobajo and unanimously voted for by all the other six Councilors from the seven wards which made up Ikorodu Central as the Leader of the House. The Councilors also nominated and overwhelmingly voted for Hon. Adebowale Adebola as its Deputy Leader and Hon. Omotayo Awolesi as Majority Leaders respectively, while Honourable Toleeb Sokunbi was elected as the Chief Whip.

After the election, the Clerk led the newly elected principal officers of the House to take the oath of office, after which he declared Mondays and Thursday every week as the official sitting dates of the house after consultations with the House members.

The Majority Leader of the house, Hon. Omotayo Awolesi who performed his first official function by adjourning the sitting.

It is hoped that, the executive and legislative arm of government at the local government will now settle down to serious business, in the interest of the teeming electorates who voted them into office.
