Despite the recent security threats and reports of insecurity across Ikorodu division, occasioned by the Badoo scourge, which has instigated human exodus from some Ikorodu communities, Chairman-elect, Ikorodu Oga Development Association, IKODASS, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru, in what could be regarded as departure from public opinion, has stated that Ikorodu Division remains the safest place to live in Lagos State.
Otunba Abiru stated this, while featuring on Ikorodu Oga Radio’s flagship programme, Ikorodu Division Icon Show, on Tuesday, August 15th, 2017. While making the assertion, the retired public servant, stated that the sensational reports generated from the media on badoo incidences in Ikorodu has helped a lot of other criminally minded individuals in the community to cash in on the Badoo gang, to unleash terror on the community, by hiding under the Badoo menace.
This, according to him, they do by leaving a semblance of the badoo signatures at the crime scenes as a way of diverting attention of the people and security operatives from them.
The retired permanent secretary and Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, while expressing optimism that badoo has become a thing of the past in Ikorodu division, however lamented inadequate security personnel in the division, noting that it was evident that the number of police personnel in Ikorodu are overwhelmed by the population of residents in the division.
The community leader, who praised Governor Akinwumi Ambode on the inauguration of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps initiative in the state, to promote community policing and mend the gap created by insufficient police personnel, encouraged the State Government to take the initiative of adopting technology. By installing Closed-Circuit Television, CCTV, at strategic places in Ikorodu, as part of efforts to curb crime in the division as it is done in most developed societies, noting that insecurity will threaten investment in any society.
On Community policing, he said Baales of various communities in Ikorodu should work in synergy with the Police and Local Council Development Association, LCDA officials, to collect bio- data of residents in their respective communities, adding that if done, will also further reduce criminal activities in Ikorodu.
