POSTERITY IS MY MOTIVATION FOR SERVING MY COMMUNITY, HON S.O.B AGUNBAIDE

The reigning Lagos state best male lawmaker of the year and majority leader of the Lagos state house of Assembly, Hon Sanai Oyeniran Bolanle Agunbaide, popularly called SOB by his teeming supporters has revealed that posterity, other than selfish interest was his driving force and motivation towards serving his community, Ikorodu.

Agunbaide made this disclosure while responding to questions from Ikorodu Oga Radio correspondent on what motivates his selfless community service drive, which has earned him several awards and recognitions within and outside his base, Ikorodu. The latest of such awards is the IKODASS Merit Award, the highest Ikorodu community awards conferred on accomplished and deserving Ikorodu indigenes.

Contrary to the popular saying that, a prophet is not without an honour, but in his own home, Hon SOB Agunbiade is a prophet who has been honoured with multiple awards and recognitions,  both at home and outside his community.

In his words, ‘my secondary school principal,  late Sholaja Alagago always make a statement, that whatever talent or skill you are imbued with, that you cannot place at the disposal of your community is a wasted talent’.

‘If you are born in a place and some people have made that community into what we all know today, you must also strive towards contributing your own quota towards the development of your community. We have people like the late Adeniran Ogunsanya, TOS Benson, Gbadamosi and others, who are being recognised and remembered today.  I cannot live forever, I want to be remembered for the things I’m able to do for my community, I’m living for my name and for posterity’ he said.

Hon Agunbiade was honoured at the grand finale event of the annual Ikorodu Oga day event, alongside late Dr Oluyombo Awojobi, a medical doctor of repute who also bagged the IKODASS merit award post- humously.

A highly elated Hon Agunbaide subsequently dedicated the award to a former Chairman, NBA Ikorodu chapter, Barr. S.O.K Shillings who he described as his childhood friend, university course mate and a man with whom he shares  humanitarian and community service passion.

The Merit award presentation event and paying of homage to the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi on Saturday November 18th was the climax of the week-long activities lined up for the commemoration of the annual Ikorodu Oga day celebrations which kicked off on November 11.
