Ikorodu Division Public Schools and their Teachers have been commended for being the most outstanding among other zones in the District.
Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary of Education District 2, Mrs Anike Adekanye disclosed this recently during the ground-breaking ceremony of Late Amos Olugbosi and Late Oba Festus Molaja Ogunlewe Dormitories at the Lagos State Civil Service Model College, Igbogbo.
The twin 100-Bed Hostel Facility was donated by the Fadugba-Ogunlewe Royal Family of Igbogbo Lagos State, in commemoration of the 76th and 50th Remembrance Anniversary of their late Patriarchs, Late Amos Olugbosi and Late Oba Festus Molaja Ogunlewe.
While Amos Olugbosi was the first indigene of Igbogbo to receive formal education, Oba Festus Molaja Ogunlewe was the first educated Monarch in the entire Lagos Colony during his reign.
He was also instrumental to the establishment of the Lagos Colony Teachers College, now Lagos State Civil Service Model College, Igbogbo where the dormitories are being built.
Adekanye, who represented the Honourable Commissioner for Education at the ceremony lauded the family’s commitment to the educational development of Igbogbo and Ikorodu Division in general.
She equally expressed appreciation to Ikorodu Educational Division Stakeholders, Teachers and Students for making the District proud.
‘We have 3 Zones in Education District 2; Kosofe, Somolu and Ikorodu. But the most vibrant and the most dedicated zone of all, is Ikorodu. The Best Teacher in Nigeria, Best School Administrator in Nigeria are all from Ikorodu Zone’ she said.
‘Also, the Best Student in Mathematics, Best Student in Chemistry, Best Student in Physics, Best Student in Yoruba Language, Best Student in Commerce and the Best Student in Economics all came from Ikorodu Zone’, she added.
The TG / PS also charged the students to draw inspiration from what the Fadugba-Ogunlewe Royal Family has done, noting that learning can happen anywhere, even out of the classroom.
