ADESHINA FLAGS OFF CONSTRUCTION OF OBUN-ALE – AJINA ROAD, PROMISES COMPLETION OF ALL ON-GOING PROJECTS BEFORE TENURE ENDS

The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon Wasiu Adeshina has assured residents that he will complete all on-going projects initiated under his administration scattered across all the 7 wards in the Council area.

Adeshina, whose 8-year tenure ends in a few months gave the assurance shortly after flagging off the 762 meters ancient road, connecting Ikorodu’s two oldest markets, Obun-ale and Ajina markets.

The Council boss stressed that, though his tenure would end later this year, his administration would not leave any uncompleted project for the incoming administration.

‘Right now almost all projects that I have embarked upon are nearing completion. The Ita-elewa Itunmaja road is almost completed. The Solomade road has been completed. The road at Eyita is almost completed. This is why we need to start this one as well. And we still have about seven more to go. We are going to complete all our projects before the expiration of my tenure’, he promised.

Earlier, Adeshina expressed happiness and satisfaction for having the opportunity to flag-off the road project in his ancestral homestead and a neighbourhood where he grew up.

‘This is an ancient road,
and this community is very important because this where I grew up. I am from the Muleruwa compound. This community has produced many illustrious sons of Ikorodu. The Ayangburen of Ikorodu is from this community. The notable Alogba family came from this community. Prince Abiodun Ogunleye is from this community as well, among many other prominent Ikorodu sons and daughters’, he said.

‘This is the first established Community in Ikorodu. This community is also important because you have the Central Mosque in this community. The Central Church (Methodist Church) Ikorodu is also in this community. Again, we have the Osugbo Abalaye traditional house and first Ayangburen Palace, known as Awofin here as well. Therefore, we cannot shy away from developing this community’, he added.

The Council boss explained that the project will start with drainages measuring 381 meters from the left and the right hand side, making a total of 762 meters.

He explained further that upon completion, the Councillors will enact a bye-law that would make the road become a one-way drive, in order to avoid traffic gridlock on the road.

Adeshina also announced that he had personally embarked on water projects in his ancestral home in Muleruwa compound which will soon be completed. He said that the project was his personal project.

He equally hinted that he will do more before leaving office in a few months.

‘There is a water project that is coming from the Federal Government and I have nominated Obun-ale and Itundofin as beneficiary communities.

The two-term Executive Chairman also stated that there was no ward across the seven wards in Ikorodu Division that he has not touched with Infrastructural projects.

‘We have also done the road connecting Oke-oriya to Igbo-Oluwo that is Shoroga Estate. It is also a long road with drainage and street light in ward B and there is also a water project there. Today, we are flagging off a road project here in ward C. I also want to let you know that very soon, we would start the laying of asphalt on the road from Ita-Elewa to Itunmaja.

Hon. Murishiku Adeniyi, Supervisor for Works, who spoke on behalf of the residents, commended Adeshina for bringing the project to the community.

He said, ‘I want to thank you, our Chairman for the numerous projects you have embarked upon since you became the Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government’.

‘I just want to tell all the residents in Itunla that they should not disappoint the Chairman. And the only way we can do so is to monitor the project, make sure there are no hitches and that we cooperate with the Contractors to deliver this project within the timeframe’.

The flag-off ceremony was witnessed by the Vice Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Secretary to the Lagos Government, Hon Lateef Afinnih and Ikorodu Division APC Secretary, Hon. Kehinde Ayanbadejo among other party Chieftains.
