For the umpteenth time since he assumed office almost 8 years ago, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon Wasiu Adeshina has again sponsored 100 indigent students in the council area for the forthcoming General Certificate Examination.
Addressing the gathering, made up of parents, party chieftains and beneficiaries, Adeshina noted said, ‘We are gathered to mark a significant milestone in the education sector in Ikorodu Local Government Area. We are distributing a total of 100 GCE and white board markers to primary school students’.
‘This GCE Forms have been duly registered for the beneficiaries. This examine is meant to lay a solid foundation for the pursuit and fulfillment of their academic dreams and aspirations’, he added.
He further explained that, since the beginning of this administration, education has been one of the major pillars that his administration is built upon.
‘Our administration remains irrevocably committed to the educational success of our students through constant support like this’, he explained.
The Council boss also stated that beneficiaries were drawn across political wards, ethnic and religious groups that made up the Council.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the HOD Education, Mr Adedeji Owolabi described the event as an annual ritual for the Chairman.
‘This event has become an annual ritual for our Chairman. His intervention in the education sector is legendary and I commend Mr Chairman for supporting the education of our students’.
Speaking on the market boards presented to 16 public primary schools, said
‘On the marker boards, it is easy to use, easy to install and it increases the rates of assimilation of pupils during class.
Also, the Council Consultant on the GCE Examination, Alh. Shamseldeen Adewale Longe in his brief remark explained that, unlike the previous years, what was presented were not application forms.
‘The registration has been completed. What we are presenting today is the photo cards and time table to ensure that our beneficiaries gain access to the examination hall’.
He however lamented the poor handwriting of most if the applicants, while charging parents to work on developing their ward’s handwriting skill.
Longe equally charged parents to ensure that their wards study hard for the examination, while noting that the exam was their gateway to success.
One of the beneficiaries, Mariam Onifade who spoke on behalf of her colleagues appreciated Adeshina for the support, while assuring him that they will make him proud.
Iyaloja-General of Ikorodu Division, Dcns Busola Isikalu in a chat with Ikorodu Oga Radio, commended Adeshina for identifying with the economic hardships being experienced by parents through the GCE sponsorship support.
A former Commissioner for Physical Development in Lagos State, Hon Rotimi Ogunleye and other Other APC Chieftains in attendance equally applauded the Council Chairman for the gesture.
