As the week-long annual Ikorodu Oga Day Celebrations continues to gather momentum, the event which will climax on Saturday, 17th November with the conferment of Ikorodu’s highest award, Lifetime Outstanding Community Service Award on the Odofin of Ikorodu, High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, SAN.
The news was formally broken today, by the Executive Secretary of Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL) and immediate past Chairman of Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS), Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru.
Abiru wrote, ‘I am glad to inform you that Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya will be honoured with the second highest Award given to an outstanding indigene of lkorodu. The highest of the awards given by IKODASS is exclusively reserved for the Ayangburen of Ikorodu and it is GRAND COMMANDER OF IKORODU OGA ( GCIO)
‘The award tagged LIFE TIME COMMUNITY OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE AWARD which is being awarded to Odofin Ogunsanya on the grounds of his numerous sterling contributions to the growth of not only lkorodu kingdom but also Ikorodu Division generally, has previously been given to only two indigenes of Ikorodu, namely the World acclaimed Paediatrician, the Late Dr Ajenifuja and the Pioneer Director of School of Transportation, LASU, and a renowned Engineer, the late Dr. Bawala.
‘The award is given every four years to a deservingly worthy son of the community who has distinguished himself in several sectors of the division’s developmental growth’, he explained.
‘This prestigious award will be given to Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya SAN FCISS at this year’s closing ceremony of 2024 OGA DAY FESTIVAL at Ayangburen Palace on Saturday, 16th November, 2024 at 12noon’.
Abiru, who is the Otunba Fuwagbuyi of Ikorodu, also seized the opportunity to extend invitation to sons and daughters of Ikorodu to attend the historic conferment ceremony.
‘On your behalf I say hearty congrats to Odofin and we pray that God in His benevolence, will continually grant him all that is required in furtherance of his services to God and humanity’.
‘It is therefore my pleasure to invite you all to the event to honour and identify with one of us who is making the family proud’, he concluded.
Recall that, since inception of Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative in 2021, Ogunsanya, through the body has been responsible for funding the body’s local joint task force, otherwise known as ‘Idagiri-Ekun’.
He has also initiated the annual IDPIL Scholarship Award for undergraduates of Ikorodu Division. Over Seventy Million Naira has been so far disbursed to indigent students.
Similarly, Odofin Ogunsanya has sponsored the total rehabilitation of a block of classrooms at Oreta Primary School, Oreta in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA. Similarly, the body has also donated a 40kva Generating set and Air-conditioners to the Passport Office in Igbogbo.
Among multi-million Naira on-going Infrastructural projects being sponsored by Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya through the IDPIL, include the on-going construction of an 800 student capacity Vocational School with Staff Quarters at Igbodu.
Construction of a Renal Centre at the General Hospital, Ikorodu and construction of N100 Million Naira private residence for the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali and most recently, the building of a new palace for the Sekumade of Ipakodo, Oba Basiru Aremu Sotonwa, FNSE.
Going by the above, it is apposite to State that Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya, SAN, FCISS is eminently qualified and deserving of the honour set to be conferred on him.
