A leading Chairmanship aspirant in Ikorodu Local Government, Arakunrin Kazeem Ogidan Showemimo has announced his withdrawal from the race.
Showemimo’s withdrawal notice was announced this morning and the notice was made available to Ikorodu Oga Radio.
The former Chairmanship aspirant stated that the decision to withdraw from the race was taken in the overall interest of the party, lamenting that the task of picking one Chairmanship aspirant from the 18 that has so far picked the party’s nomination form was too herculean and avoidable.
The notice of withdrawal read in part, ‘It’s a great deal to present oneself for the services of humanity, through political office with a view to birth positive change, youth emancipation and infrastructural development in Ikorodu Local Government Area. But, such ambition must not be a do-or-die affair, with attendant cost on our great party’.
‘Ladies and Gentlemen, I am of opinion that the leadership of our great party in Ikorodu Local Government should be relieved of the burden and unrest of political shenanigans of attending to (18) Eighteen Aspirants who got the party nominations forms without political alignments and consensus among them. Hence, as an Aspirant who does not believe in do-or-die politics; after a wide consultation and advice from our revered party leaders, My Boss, other critical stakeholders and my campaign organizations, I hereby resolve that I should take the lead in maintaining decorum in the party primaries, by withdrawing from the race to contest for chairmanship position of Ikorodu Local Government. Although it is a bitter pill to swallow, I however have no option than to listen to the voice of wisdom’.
Going down memory lane, the Ikorodu Local Government Supervisor for Health noted that it was not the first he would be putting party interest above his personal ambitions.
‘As a party faithful, my loyalty is to the common cause to our great political party APC and respect for party leadership is sacrosanct in my heart. This I have displayed at many time in 2011 when I contested for the office of the Chairman with form No 000029 also in 2021, when I contested the same office and I was again asked to shelve my ambition which I did in the best interest of our Great Party’.
‘In 2025, I joined the league of (23) twenty three aspirants to contest the exalted office of the Executive Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government under our Great Party All Progressive Congress (APC). After going through the vigorous electioneering awareness campaign at our various wards level, LGA, political visitation to party leadership and political office holders few to mention. Appearing before party leaders for pre-party screening which out of 23 Aspirants I came out 5th position in the ranking’.
‘In furtherance of my ambition, I made another appearance before the leaders on 1st and 2nd pre-party screening which the result indicated an excellent performance of my ability’, he added.
Today is another, 29th April, history is being written again as my 2025 Chairmanship ambition would step-down from the race and join the party to build a better future. This notwithstanding, I would still be very much available to serve in another capacity, as the party may deem fit.
Concluding, Showemimo thanked all his well wishers, campaign team members for the huge support he received from them during the awareness campaign and my pre party screening exercise.
