Amidst the on-going nation-wide #EndBadGovernance hunger protests in the country, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon Wasiu Adeshina has stated that, skill acquisition was the right way to bring the youths out of the hunger in the land.
Adeshina stated this on Tuesday during the formal flag-off of the 7 Months Fashion Designing Skill Acquisition programme, sponsored by the Ikorodu Local Government.
In his address to the beneficiaries, Adeshina noted that the empowerment skill was aimed at ensuring that youths of the Council area were well positioned to take advantage of the prospects in the fashion industry in Nigeria.
‘Today marks a significant milestone as we launch our fashion designing training program. This initiative is designed to unlock the potential of 100 youths, in Ikorodu, engender their creativity, and equip them with necessary skills to succeed in the fashion industry’.
‘Fashion is not just about clothes; it’s about self-expression, confidence, and cultural identity. As you embark on this journey, remember that fashion has the power to transform lives, communities, and economies’, he added.
Adeshina further noted that, the skill acquisition will have a multiplier effect on the youths by creating more job opportunities particularly towards contributing to the growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMES in Nigeria’.
He consequently urged beneficiaries of the training to embrace this opportunity with passion, dedication, and an open mind.
‘Let your imagination run wild, and your creativity shine. It may also interest you to know that the best trainee at the end of the training will be well equipped with fashion equipment at no cost’, he promised.
Adeshina equally disclosed that his administration will soon embark on economic booster, whereby the local government intends to give out loans to small and medium enterprise as well as farmers to improve their businesses.
He also promised that the ring roads within Ikorodu Local Government will be standardized by reconstructing a covered drainage at Ita Elewa to Ajina, Ajina to Itumaja, Ajina to Obunoke all in Ikorodu Local Government.
One of the training facilitators, Mrs. Adetoun Awofeso also stressed that, ‘the current economic situation in the country is a time for us to embrace production above consumption, in line with the agenda of the current administration. Nigeria is well positioned to dictate the pace in the global fashion industry. The massive youth population and the creativity of our youths are what is required to dictate the pace in the global fashion industry and we have both’.
Dignitaries and APC Chieftains at the ceremony commended the Council Chairman for sponsoring the empowerment scheme, thus charging the beneficiaries to ensure they take full advantage of the opportunities presented through the training to better their economic prosperity.
Sofiat Folaranmi, on behalf of the beneficiary appreciated Adeshina for his commitment to the development of Ikorodu Local Government youths, through his numerous welfare initiatives.
She equally expressed appreciation to the facilitators of the training, Mrs Yetunde Akande and Mrs Awofeso, for their commitment to the economic empowerment and development of Ikorodu Local Government youths.
