FARMERS PLEDGE DISCOUNT SALES ON FARM PRODUCE AS SENATOR TOKUNBO ABIRU SUPPORTS OVER 1,000 LAGOS EAST FARMERS WITH FERTILIZERS, LAND TILLER MACHINES, SPRAYERS.

The South West Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Otunba (Dr.) Femi Oke, who spoke on behalf of members of the Associations, and other farmers who benefited from the distribution of fertilizers and other farm implements by Senator Tokunbo Abiru has said that 2025 started on a good note, adding that, in appreciation of the sustained efforts of the senator for farmers, members of the Association planned to showcase and sell their farm produce at discounted prices to members of the public.

He said, “We are grateful for the support of Senator Abiru, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We are glad to report that efforts have yielded. Between now and April, we will pick a date when we will showcase the bounty harvests of our farm produce and sell at farm gate prices to members of this Senatorial district”

This follows the distribution of fertilizers, land tiller machines and sprayers to over 1,000 farmers across the Lagos East Senatorial District, by Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Chairman Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions today.

It will be recalled that prior to this time, Senator Abiru had facilitated agric initiatives and support to farmers in the district, such as the distribution of farms inputs, including fertilisers, seedlings, and herbicides to over 300 crop farmers, and the provision of fully vaccinated chickens, feeds, and cages for over 100 livestock poultry farmers in the Senatorial District. The Senator has also set up farmers’ cooperatives in Lagos East Senatorial District, for easy access to funds for their business operations.

Similarly, the Executive Director of Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, Dr Patrick Adebola has commended Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Chairman Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions for his consistent support for farmers in the LAGOS East Senatorial District.

Adebola, who was represented by Mr. Arutu Ademola, Chief Accountant at Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, commended Senator Abiru, and President Tinubu for the laudable efforts aimed at ensuring stable and affordable food supply to the residents of Lagos East Senatorial District, and Nigerians at large.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Senator, represented by his Special Adviser on Constituency Matters, Dr. Saheed Oladapo Ibikunle, disclosed that the initiative was aimed at complementing the efforts of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda on food security, stressing that strategic support for farmers is a panacea to food insecurity facing the nation.

“These farm inputs will enhance growth in your farm, and by extension your family and the national economy. It will contribute to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), economic indices in Lagos State and Nigeria”, Ibikunle told the local farmers.

(Princess) Adebimpe Akinsola, Dr. Hakeem Adetugbobo, Alhaja Sherifat Abiodun Ogunniyi, Alhaji Sulaimon Musiliu, Bishop Olajide Odusoga, Aarebirin Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Alhaji Toyin Gbadamosi, APC LGA Chairman, Epe, amongst others.
