FREE GCE FORM DISTRIBUTION: IKORODU COUNCIL BOSS PLEDGES FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR OUTSTANDING STUDENTS, REELS OUT QUARTERLY TRANSPORT STIPEND FOR STAFF

Ikorodu Local Government Council Boss, Hon Wasiu Adeshina has pledged handsome financial rewards for outstanding secondary students and who come out in flying colours during the forthcoming General Certificate of Education Examination slated for October/ November this year.

Adeshina gave the promise during the distribution of 200 Free GCE Forms to indigent students drawn from public and private schools across the Council area.

‘I urge the beneficiaries to take this opportunity seriously by coming out in flying colours, so that they would be able to benefit from other education benefits like getting free jamb forms from other philanthropists in order to gain admission into the institutions of their choice’, he advised.

‘To further support outstanding students at the examination, we will give financial support of N100,000 to student with best GCE result, N75,000 to the second best and N50,000 to the students with the third best result’, he pledged.

The Council Boss noted that, education was the best legacy and most profitable achievement that anyone can have.

‘Education is the best legacy that can change the structure of any society. In realization of this, the local government has set a standard of improving the school infrastructures. Very very soon, the local government will commission a 5 classroom block at Salvation Army Primary school Ikorodu .
Also, very soon, the council will embark on the reconstruction of Jamatul Islamiyat Primary School, Sabo fence’, he stated.

He added that, the forms were presented to merited students after rigorous screening process carried out to allow eligible beneficiaries who were drawn from all secondary schools within the local government as and are being registered in their various examination centers.

Adeshina also used the opportunity to reel out some of his government’s educational projects to the gathering.

‘Ladies and Gentlemen, to prove further that our administration is a lover of education, we have just concluded a Digital Skills Training of 100 students in various areas of skills set’.

Adeshina further stressed that the Free GCE Firm distribution was an annual educational support for indigent student that started since the beginning of his administration.

Similarly, the Council Boss stated that his administration was committed to the general well-being of different people including, communities, groups and individuals to enhance their wellbeing.

Adeshina also announced a N5000 quarterly transportation stipend for the Council Staffs as a form of palliative aimed at cushioning the effect of the subsidy removal.

‘As we take care of members of the general public and students, this administration will also take care of its staff. To cushion the effect of the Fuel Subsidy removal, on quarterly basis N5000 will be given to each and every staff of the local government. This will serve as a palliative to the staffs’, he explained.

Dignitaries, political leaders and other stakeholders at the event commended Hon Adeshina for his gesture and support for indigent students.

They also admonished beneficiaries to reciprocate the Council Boss’ gesture by passing their examination in flying colours.

Speaking on behalf of the 200 beneficiaries, Miss Aishat Kanzudeen thanked Hon Adeshina for his kind gesture.

I feel so happy and very grateful to our Amiable Chairman for this support. Not many parents could afford to pay the form, but Hon Adeshina has really helped us and we promise not to disappoint him’, she promised.
