GOOD GOVERNANCE: MEDIA STAKEHOLDERS ADVOCATE TRANSPARENCY, COLLABORATION AS IKORODU NORTH LCDA CHAIRMAN, HON BANJO HOSTS PRACTITIONERS TO A MEDIA PARLEY

The relationship between key players in the fourth Estate of the realm – Press and the Management of Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area received a major boost yesterday, when the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, Builder Adebisi Banjo hosted community media practitioners across the Division to a media parley.

Addressing media stakeholders at the informal meeting, Banjo acknowledged the role of the Media in good governance and stressed the need for a smooth working relationship with Community Media practitioners in Ikorodu.

The Council boss disclosed that he decided to heed the advise of his Media Team to bring the media practitioners across Ikorodu Division together in order to create a robust and cordial relationship that goes beyond official engagements with the Council.

Explaining the rationale behind the parley, Banjo said, ‘I decided to host this parley as a way of building cordial relationship with my brothers in the Ikorodu Community Media space who are ordinarily my brothers’.

‘This parley will provide us the opportunity to get to know each other better and create a platform for us to get to understand one another better, clear some misconceptions for the growth and development of not just Ikorodu North LCDA but the entire Ikorodu Division in general’, he added.

Banjo further explained that he was quick to accept the suggestion by his media team to host the event, based on the idea he got from one of the meetings hosted by the Ikorodu Media Forum (IMF) in 2023.

Responding, Omo’ba ‘Peju Akinyemi, Founder / CEO Ikorodu Oga Radio commended the Council boss for hosting the parley. He however stressed the need for political office holders, particularly local government Chairmen to stop seeing media practitioners as their enemies rather than partners-in-progress.

His position was further buttressed by many other practitioners in attendance, who canvassed for a more friendly working relationship with political office holders being key stakeholders in good governance.

Stakeholders were unanimous on the strategic role of the Media as the fourth realm of the Estate and its critical role in good governance and democratic practice.

Builder Banjo assured his guests of better working relationship and smooth information dissemination in 2024.

The informal parley climaxed with exchange of banters among practitioners and members of the Ikorodu North LCDA team in attendance.
