The dynamic governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode is set to make an unprecedented visit to the state owned institution, Lagos State Polytechnic, making him the first civilian governor to ever make such visit since the establishment of the institution in 1977.
The rector of LASPOTECH, Mr Oluyinka Sogunro, disclosed that the Governor, His Excellency, Governor Akinwumi Ambode and members of the state Executive Council would grace the 2-in-1 40th year anniversary and 25th convocation ceremony of the institution, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 9th, February, 2017, tagged “LASPOTECH Aloft at 40”.
The Rector, who made this disclosure at a Press Conference with journalists on Thursday, February 2nd, 2017, said in over 27 years, no civilian Governor or military head of state has been physically present at any of the institution’s convocation ceremony, but assured that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode was ready to break the jinx.
In his words ‘since the establishment of this institution, we have only played host to a military governor, in person of Rtd Com. Okhai Mike Akhigbe, since then, no sitting governor, especially civilian governor of the state has ever attended our convocation ceremony. But, I am happy to announce to you that, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is set to break that jinx’.
Mr Sogunro also revealed that the Governor, on the day of the convocation will commission the 4 blocks of completed facility at the school’s technology complex, among other projects.
