HUNGER PROTEST: PROTEST IS YOUR LEGITIMATE RIGHT, NOTHING WRONG, LASG

As preparations for the nationwide protests scheduled for August continue, the Lagos State Government has affirmed that such demonstrations are a fundamental right of citizens and that there is nothing inherently wrong with them.

Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the Secretary to the State Government, made this statement on Tuesday during a meeting with the Secretaries to the Local Governments (SLGs).

However, she urged potential protesters to ensure their demonstrations remain peaceful and do not escalate into violence or destruction.

Salu-Hundeyin acknowledged that while protesting is a legitimate right, she believes there is no pressing need for protests in Lagos, given the state’s significant efforts and improvements for its residents.

She remarked, “Protesting is a valid right for citizens and there is nothing wrong with it. However, people should take care to ensure that protests do not become violent or destructive.

“Lagos State has made substantial efforts for the welfare of its citizens, and there should be no reason for anyone in the state to engage in destructive behavior. I say this sincerely and from the heart—there is simply no justification for riots or violence in Lagos State.”
