An aspirant for the Lagos East Senatorial District and Chairman of Ikorodu Development Association, IKODASS, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru has urged governments at all levels to enforce strict adherence to safety rules on the Lagos state water ways.
Abiru’s charge came on the heels of the unfortunate boat mishap that claimed the lives of of five passengers, with five others who were critically injured on Wednesday, 26th July at the Ipakodo ferry terminal, in Ikorodu.
According to a release from the aspiring Senator and community leader, ‘Government at all levels must enforce strict adherence to safety rules on the water ways, in order to avert future occurrence of this unfortunate incident’, he said.
Abiru also called on the Lagos state government to improve on the water transportation services in the state, as a way of restoring the confidence of Lagosians in water transportation.
He also enjoined users of the water transportation services in the state to report any sharp practices or unethical practices they may notice among operators, in order to bring erring operators to book.
In his condolence message to families of the victims, Abiru prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed, while praying to God to grant the deceased families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
