INSECURITY: IKORODU MONARCHS DEMAND SPECIAL STATUS FOR THE DIVISION

Ikorodu Division Monarchs have demanded for a special status consideration for ikorodu Division from Lagos State Government.

The monarchs made the demand during a Special Security Meeting tagged, ‘2021 Ikorodu Town Hall Meeting on Security’  held at the Ikorodu Town Hall and attended by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hakeem Odumosu on Wednesday 27th January.

Addressing the CP and other stakeholders at the forum on behalf of his colleagues, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali condemned the spate of criminality and cult clashes that has engulfed the division in recent times, blaming it on ‘foreign’ elements within the community.

Oba Kasali further pressed home his point by asking for a special status for Ikorodu Division, in view of the security challenges confronting it.

‘Ikorodu Division is the fastest growing division in Lagos State and we accommodate a large chunk of Lagos population. Considering the numerous challenges confronting us as a Division, we deserve  a special status from the Lagos State Government, the same way Lagos State also deserves a special status from the federal government of Nigeria’, he said.

Oba Kasali also charged the Police Commissioner on the need to tackle the spate of killings and cult clashes in the Division decisively.

‘Our people want a reassurance from you, CP on your commitment to stem the tide of criminality. Ikorodu is known for peace, hardwork and socializing. The criminal elements behind the criminality in Ikorodu Division are aliens. They are total strangers and anyone of them who claim to be from here are nothing but bastards’.

‘To me, these criminal elements are not cultists, I prefer to call them gangsters. Let us  call a spade a spade. Calling them cultists is giving them a false colouration’, he added.

The revered Monarch also demanded for additional Police personnel and the opening of more police stations and police posts in strategic Ikorodu communities.

Oba Kasali concluded his remarks by calling for a sincere soul-searching among all stakeholders present so they can know where to make necessary adjustments.
