
Few months after the grand-finale of the Ikorodu Local Government Inter-School Debate Competition, the First Lady of Lagos State , Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu has splashed cash prizes on all the participating schools.
Recall that the First Lady was the Special Guest of Honour at the Grand-Finale of the annual competition, sponsored by Ikorodu Local Government last year.
Similarly, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon Wasiu Adeshina has showered a whooping 1 Million Naira cash prize on the First, Second and Third place winners of the competition respectively.

Elepe Community Grammar School carted home the grand prize of N500,000 while Ipakodo Grammar School got N300,000 for coming second and Government Model College went home with N200,000 for the third place position.
The cash presentation was held at the Ikorodu Local Government Hall and witnessed by top APC Leaders, political office holders and educational Stakeholders’ across Ikorodu Division.
Speaking on the significance of the presentation of cash awards to the winners, Adeshina stated that the exercise was in further demonstration of his administration’s commitment to educational development in the Division.
‘We are trying to inculcate a sense of boldness into our students. That is the essence of the competition. I am happy to say that the first second and third positions came from other LCDAs in the Division and this shows the level of transparency we put into the competition. This also goes to show that our public school students are very conversant with their books.

Adeshina equally expressed deep appreciation to the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu for her immense support for the competition, particularly for gracing the grand-finale and for the cash awards she presented to the schools.
The Council Chairman added that, the competition was aimed at promoting the science of public speaking among public secondary school students, towards preparing them for their roles as leaders of tomorrow.
Earlier, Media Aide to Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Enitan Olukotun who represented the Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions praised Adeshina for investing heavily into the competition, noting that it was a good way to develop excellence and leadership skills among public school students.

He equally charged the good people of Ikorodu Local Government and, by extension, Lagos East Senatorial District to continue to support the ruling party so that they can enjoy many more impactful projects from the party.
