Stakeholders across major sectors of Ikorodu Local Government, comprising Market Men and Women, Community Development Committees, Youth Groups, Religious Bodies and Traditional Leaders today passed a vote-of-confidence on the Management of Ikorodu Local Government, under the leadership of Hon. Wasiu Adeshina.
The stakeholders were part of the gathering that received the visiting team of Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC) on Local Government Assessment who were on tour of local governments and local council development areas across Lagos East Senatorial District.
The team was led by a former Minister for Defence and former Senator, representing Lagos Central Senatorial District at the Senate, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
Addressing the stakeholders, Senator Obanikoro stated that the mandate of his Committee was to assess the performance of the Chairman by hearing directly from them.
Subsequently, the former Nigeria Ambassador to Ghana openly requested an honest assessment of the performance of the Chairman from the audience.
Baale of Ojogbe, Chief Olomo praised the Adeshina-led administration for the good works he is doing. He particularly noted that Adeshina has consistently completed most of the projects he embarked upon.
Chief Olomo however drew the attention of the GAC team to the State of all the nine roads in Ojogbe, host community to the council Secretariat that were in swampy areas and haven’t been constructed, citing lack of adequate funds by the council.
He however challenged Adeshina on the need to build a strong project monitoring team to ensure quality project delivery.
Similarly, Alh Lukman Shonibare who spoke on behalf of the CDCs commended Adeshina for always carrying them along on all the Council’s projects.
He equally thanked the Council Chairman for supporting the CDC with a bus to aid its movement and enhance its operations.
Iyaloja-General of Ikorodu Division, Deaconess Busola Isikalu also spoke glowingly of Adeshina, describing him as a listening leader.
Representative of the Arewa, Alh M.D Hassan praised the integration of the Arewa Community in the Council’s activities, noting that they feel at home in the Council.
Com. Basit Ogunsami also spoke on behalf of Ikorodu Youths, describing Adeshina as a youth-friendly Chairman.
Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev’d Ojuolape Joseph commended Adeshina for being fair to all religious groups in the Council area.
He equally thanked the Council boss for heeding his appeal for the construction of Arowolo road which the Council Chairman has delivered.
Earlier in his welcome speech, Adeshina expressed his joy and appreciation to the visiting team.
‘I want to tell you that our administration has done so much in terms of infrastructure, education, community development and road maintenance’.
He equally reported that it was during his administration that his administration has delivered 35 roads since 2017 that he came into office as Executive Secretary.
Adeshina further stated that the local government Secretariat building was renovated with a general facelift and resurfacing of the road networks by his administration.
He concluded by welcoming the team, particularly Senator Obanikoro who was visiting the Council for the first time.
