As part of its mission to nurture the next generation of transformational leaders, the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) hosted a dynamic mentorship and coaching session with renowned leadership expert Fela Durotoye, Founder/CEO of Gemstone Group.
The session, a key component of the LJLA Leadership Mentorship Cycle, provided Fellows with practical leadership insights to accelerate their personal and professional growth.
The mentorship programme is designed to connect Fellows with accomplished professionals who can guide them on their leadership journey.

Speaking on the significance of this initiative, the Executive Secretary of LJLA, Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, emphasised its role in fostering meaningful mentor-mentee relationships.
“At LJLA, we believe that leadership is best cultivated through guidance and experience. The Leadership Mentorship Cycle is a platform for our Fellows to gain wisdom from those who have walked the path before them. By learning from seasoned professionals, they are better equipped to navigate challenges and drive impact in their respective fields”, she stated.
During the session, Mr. Durotoye guided the Fellows through a hands-on exercise on mastering effective introductions, highlighting the need for clarity, confidence and impact. He also outlined four core leadership principles, urging them to take responsibility, believe in themselves, remain committed to their vision and consistently deliver results.

Reflecting on the experience, Funmi Coker, a Fellow, described the session as an eye-opener.
“This session was a game-changer. Learning the power of self-introduction and how to communicate my value effectively was invaluable. Fela Durotoye’s insights on leadership have given me a renewed sense of direction and confidence in my journey”, she said.
The session ended with Fela Durotoye delivering a powerful message on the fusion of Value and Values, a concept he described as the cornerstone of impactful leadership. He further emphasised that mentorship serves as the bridge between potential and success.

“Witnessing these Fellows embrace leadership principles with such enthusiasm reaffirms the vital role of guiding the emerging leaders”, he added.
With initiatives like the LJLA Leadership Mentorship Cycle, the Academy continues to set the stage for leadership excellence, equipping young professionals with the skills and mindset to make meaningful contributions to society.
