The Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof Olufemi Peters last Monday paid a ‘Thank You’ visit to the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi at his palace.
The visit, according to Prof Peters was meant to personally thank the monarch for the warm reception and robust support he gave the Ikorodu Model Study Centre of the University since the centre commenced operations in Ikorodu few months ago.
The Vice Chancellor was joined on the visit by the Centre Director, Prof Ajibola Saheed and other principal officers of the Ikorodu Centre.
In his brief remarks, Prof Peters expressed his gratitude to Oba Shotobi for donating five acres of land to the institution in Isiu.
He described Oba Shotobi’s gesture as heartwarming and motivating. He therefore assured the monarch that the institution would reciprocate his gesture by ensuring the Centre does not lack every necessary facilities that would make it deliver the best University education to Ikorodu Division residents.
Earlier in his opening speech, the Centre Director, Prof Ajibola Saheed noted that his team has been overwhelmed by the hospitality and tremendous support from Oba Shotobi and some eminent Ikorodu personalities since his arrival in Ikorodu few months back.
He equally appreciated residents for their positive attitude to the institution, resulting in massive registration of different cadre of students, thus making the Ikorodu Model Study Centre one of the few outstanding centres in Nigeria, despite being a new Centre.
He concluded by appealing to the Ayangburen to help thank the Vice Chancellor, Prof Peters for giving NOUN Ikorodu a Model Study Centre status and for releasing a 2022 Hilux Pick Up Van to the Centre, a gesture he said was special.
Oba Shotobi in his response appreciated his visitors for the ‘Thank You’ visit, while assuring them of more support from himself and other eminent Ikorodu Division personalities.
Oba Ayangburen equally charged the Vice Chancellor and his team to see him as a Partner-in-Progress towards the success of the Centre.
A major highpoint of the visit was the presentation of the Ikorodu Centre’s Hilux Vehicle to Oba Shotobi for his royal blessing.
The Executive Secretary of Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL) and Otunba Fuwagbuyi of Ikorodu, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru and some other important dignitaries also joined Oba Shotobi to receive the visiting NOUN team.
