The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon Wasiu Adeshina has stated that the One-Day Governor of Lagos State, Abdulrahman Abdul-Azeez was a pride to the local council.
Adeshina stated this in his speech during the special home-coming reception organized in honour of Abdulrahman, yesterday at the local government Secretariat.
The Council boss, while expressing delight that an Ikorodu student has emerged as One-Day Governor of Lagos State during his lifetime and under his administration, recalled that Abdulrahman’s journey into greatness started at the Council Secretariat during the preliminary stages of the 20th Edition of the Spelling Bee Competition which was eventually won by Abdulrahman.
Adeshina also commended the visionary leadership of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for initiating the competition during her time as First Lady of Lagos State. He described the Spelling Bee Competition which was initiated through the former First Lady’s New Era Foundation, as a powerful tool for discovering and nurturing the talents of secondary school students in the State.
‘Her foresight and unwavering dedication to the development of youths has created a lasting opportunity, enabling them to transcend the limitations imposed by their societal and economic backgrounds’, he said.
While welcoming the One-Day Governor to the Council area, Adeshina praised Abdulrahman for being a brilliant and exceptional student of Oriwu Model College, Ikorodu who through diligence and commitment has earned himself the prestigious position of the One-Day Governor of Lagos State.
He therefore described the event as a remarkable one for the entire Ikorodu Local Government.
Earlier, the Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary of Education District 2, Mrs Anike Adekanye commended the Governor of Lagos State for creating a conducive learning environment for Lagos State students to excel.
She also boasted that, with the heavy investment of the government in the educational sector, public school students in the State can stand shoulder high with their counterparts from any private schools.
Dignitaries who graced the home-coming reception for the One-Day Governor were, former Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Alh. Waheed Owokodu, Chairman APC Ikorodu Local Government, Hon Waheed Animashaun, Lagos East Woman Leader, Mrs Wonnuola Folami and other APC Chieftains.
The Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi was ably represented by some of his Baales.
Leader of the Ikorodu Legislative Chamber, Hon Adebola Adebowale led the Councillors while the SLG, Alh Lateef Afinnih, led other members of the Ikorodu Local Government cabinet to the reception.
Iyaloja-General of Ikorodu Division, Dcns Busola Isikalu and her Vice, Mrs Bukola Osho, led other market leaders from across the Council area to the event.
