There was excitement across Ipakodo Kingdom of Ikorodu West LCDA on Wednesday, as the Ipakodo Development Association (IDA), organizers of the Annual Ipakodo Day Celebrations unveiled a week-long line up of activities for the 2024 edition of the annual celebration.
In his address to representatives of Ipakodo Community comprising of market men and women, Artisans, youth groups, traditional and honourary Chiefs, the Sekumade of Ipakodo, Oba Basiru Aremu Sotonwa, FNSE expressed delight at the success of the two previous editions of the event in 2022 and 2023.
‘I am delighted to say that what started barely 3 years ago like child’s play has continued to wax strong and has become the foremost and most- attended annual community event in the entire ikorodu West LCDA as a whole’
The Royal Father also expressed appreciation to God for giving him the rare opportunity of being the first Sekumade of Ipakodo to have initiated and hosted the annual community celebration.
‘I also want to express my sincere appreciation to Almighty God for giving me the opportunity of making history as the first Sekumade of Ipakodo to have initiated and consistently hosted this community-wide celebration’
Oba Shotonwa further appealed to all and sundry to join forces with the Ipakodo Development Association towards making the 2024 event a success.
Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of Ipakodo Development Association IDA, Prince Olasunkanmi Shotonwa thanked the monarch and good people of Ipakodo community for their continued support for the IDA, and in particular the successful hosting of Ipakodo Day Celebrations.
Shotonwa particularly noted that the successes recorded during the two previous editions of the annual event has positively positioned the Ipakodo Day Celebrations at par with other well established community celebrations across Ikorodu Division.
‘I am delighted to inform this gathering that in just 3 years of organizing the Ipakodo Day Celebration, our annual community event is now being rated alongside other well established communities celebrations in ikorodu Division many of which have been holding for many decades. To me, this is a very big deal and I must confess that this feat has only been achievable through the consistent support and collaboration of various groups like the market men and women transporters, Ndigbo, etc’, he said.
The 2-in-1 Unveiling of Official Ankara and Press Conference for the 2024 Ipakodo Day Celebrations climaxed with the formal unveiling of the official Ankara for the event by Oba Sotonwa, who was supported by prominent Ipakodo Chiefs like Chief Oludayo Shotonwa, Lisa of Ipakodo, Chief Joseph Aluko, Baale Ori-okuta and Secretary to Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon Femi Anifowoshe who represented the Executive Chairman, Hon Sulaiman Kazeem Olanrewaju.
The week-long programme of activities are as listed below;
Day 1: Monday,30th September – Woro Procession and Traditional Cultural Activities Day
Day 2: Tuesday, 1st October – Free Medical Test and Treatment
Day 3: Wednesday, 2nd October – Ipakodo Youth and Senior Citizens Day
Day 4: Thursday, 4th October – Market men / Women & Artisans and Ijoko Agba Day
Day 5: Friday 4th October- Jumat Service
Day 6: Saturday, 5th October – Grand Finale and Reception
Day 7: Sunday 6th October – Church Thanksgiving Service
