PROTESTERS STORM LAGOS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ON PLANNED IMPEACHMENT OF GOVERNOR AKINWUNMI AMBODE BY LAWMAKERS

The planned impeachment of the Lagos State governor by the state house of assembly has assumed an interesting dimension, as a group of protesters has stormed the Lagos state house of assembly complex to protest the planned impeachment of the governor by the house.

The protesters who displayed messages like ‘Don’t set Lagos On Fire’, Leave Ambode alone to finish his term, Lagos will loose Lagos’, among other inscriptions. They also made chants and sang solidarity songs, in support of the state governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode.

Meanwhile, the protesters refused to be placated by the assurance from the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Sanai Agunbiade that whatever decision made by the lawmakers was in the best interest of Lagosians.

Some of the protesters, who were apparently APC members pleaded with the state lawmakers to back down on its decision to impeach the governor, considering the grave implications it may have on the outcome of the forthcoming general elections in the state, which are only few weeks away.

It will be recalled that the state assembly at plenary on Monday, January, 28 issued a one-week impeachment notice on the Lagos state governor to appear before the house to offer explanations on what they termed gross financial misconduct and breach of budgetary provisions or face impeachment.

The lawmakers also accused Ambode of spending without appropriation by the state assembly.
