The Supervising Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Abimbola Bowale, today provided an update on the progress of the recent Supplemental Immunization Activities (SIA) aimed at combating Yellow Fever, Measles, and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) in Lagos State.
Dr. Bowale announced that, to date, the Yellow Fever vaccination campaign has reached an impressive 20,170,721 individuals, achieving a coverage rate of 94% of the target population. This successful effort is crucial in protecting the population against Yellow Fever outbreaks and enhancing community immunity.
In addition, the Measles vaccination campaign has reached 3,575,132 individuals, with a coverage rate of 85% of the target population. This figure highlights ongoing efforts to curb the spread of Measles and ensure the protection of vulnerable populations, especially children.
For the HPV vaccination campaign, 163,553 doses have been administered, utilizing all available vaccines. This initiative aims to reduce the incidence of HPV-related cancers, particularly cervical cancer, and to promote women’s health across the state.
Dr. Bowale thanked all health workers, volunteers, and partners involved in the efforts, noting that the success of the SIA campaigns reflects the commitment of the Lagos State Government to public health and the well-being of all residents.
“We remain dedicated to achieving comprehensive coverage in all immunization campaigns and ensuring that every Lagosian has access to life-saving vaccines”, Dr. Bowale said.
The Lagos State Primary Health Care Board continues to work towards strengthening immunization efforts.
